The CanaDares society for children in Tanzania is holding a family fun fair on Sept. 20 to raise funds for their efforts providing aid to Tanzanian children.
The fair – or Sikukuu, in Swahili – will be held in Porpoise Bay Park from 1 to 4 p.m. The family event will have food, drinks and games for all ages.
According to CanaDares volunteer Beverly McEwan, 40 per cent of the children in Tanzania are malnourished.
“Come learn about the 22 children who are part of the CanaDares family,” she said.
Sunshine Coast social worker Lynda Kearns established CanaDares in 2002 after volunteering in Tanzania.
CanaDares was originally a program for housing and assisting children living on the streets of Dar-es-Salaam. It now provides shelter and education for several orphaned children at a home in the region, named Vijaliwa Vingi.
Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children. Tickets are available at the Visitors Centre in Sechelt, Three Dog Bakery and Gaia’s Fair Trade Gifts in Gibsons.
