Business windows smashed in Sechelt

Vandalism

Sunshine Coast RCMP is investigating after a vandal smashed the windows of numerous businesses in downtown Sechelt in the early morning hours of Saturday, Dec. 6.

According to RCMP, within the span of about half an hour, four businesses in the downtown core had a rock thrown through their window, while a shopping cart was used to break the glass of a fifth business. Nothing was taken from any of the businesses, and it does not appear that there was any intent to break and enter the premises.

Detachment media liaison Const. Harrison Mohr said police do not believe the businesses were targeted for any specific reason, but, “clearly the person that did this gave absolutely no thought to all the hard work these owners put into their businesses, and the pride they take in being a part of this community.”

Police do have a person of interest, but ask anyone who has information about these incidents to call RCMP at 604-885-2266 or Crimestoppers, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Specifically, business owners along Cowrie Street and Wharf Avenue are encouraged to review their video footage between about 12:15 and 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 6, and call police if they see anything suspicious.
