Route 1 buses heading toward Sechelt from Langdale will no longer be driving up Flume Road starting June 14.
“Due to safety concerns at Flume Road and the Sunshine Coast Highway, Route 1 Sechelt-Gibsons will be rerouted through Roberts Creek from Beach Avenue to Sunshine Coast Highway via Marlene Road instead of Flume Road,” BC Transit said in a release.
Stops have been moved to adjust to the new route, with one located at Marlene Road and Beach Avenue and another at Marlene and Spruce Road. Southbound service remains the same, with buses heading down Flume. The change was made by Sunshine Coast Regional District directors after a report indicated the intersection was dangerous for bus drivers. Some bus-dependent Flume Road residents opposed the change in a petition.
On June 10, BC Transit circulated another safety alert – this one related to COVID-19. The transit service wants passengers to wear face masks while riding the bus. “We encourage riders to please wear a face covering on board.”
The BC Transit Recovery Plan says the use of face masks is encouraged “on buses and at bus stops where physical distancing is not possible.”
