Brazen bear destroys vehicle

This vehicle was trashed by a bear on Aurora Way in Gibsons on Nov. 17.

A brazen bear learned the hard way that it’s easier to get into a car than to get out.

On the evening of Nov. 17, police attended a bear in vehicle call after a resident in the 800 block of Aurora Way, Gibsons, hearing his car horn honking and all the hazard lights turned on, realized there was a large creature inside the vehicle.

After confirming the vehicle was empty, police found extensive damage to the interior and wet muddy paw prints on the outside of the driver’s side door.

The bear appears to have entered and exited through the unlocked driver door. The resident advised he’d left fast food garbage and dirty diapers inside, which would have been very attractive to the bear.

The Conservation Officer Service also attended. The inoperable vehicle was towed from the scene, and the matter has been referred to ICBC.
