Crews have now removed the old boat cradle from the Coles Marine site in Gibsons.
The work was completed on Oct. 31.
Coles Marine, at 524 Marine Drive, was destroyed by fire in 2010 but the cradle, used to haul boats out of the water, and some of the concrete foundation remained.
It was a conversation piece and bit of local history to some, but an eyesore to many others.
The abandoned structure was privately owned and sat on the foreshore lease associated with the Coles Marine property. Director of infrastructure services Dave Newman told Gibsons council last month that the property’s current owner gave the Town permission to remove it, but does not intend to contribute to the cost.
Last month Gibsons council approved using $5,200 from the contingency fund for a broader $308,000 foreshore improvement project to have the contractor that would already be on site remove the boat cradle as well.
The other work included reconstruction of a retaining wall at Armours Beach and infilling of a short section of the seawalk fronting the Coles site.
