Blue Bin suspension continues in Sechelt

Recycling

The District of Sechelt’s temporary suspension of the Blue Bin recycling program was still in effect as of Coast Reporter’s press time Thursday morning.

At Wednesday night’s council meeting, Sechelt Mayor Bruce Milne said he felt the district was close to reaching an agreement to restart the service.

“I can only say that it’s still in active negotiations. It’s very, very close, but we thought we were very close a few days ago,” Milne said. “As of this evening I can’t tell you when it’s going to come back, but it could be any time … There’s almost no disagreements at this point.”

As soon as Blue Bin pickup is restored, he said, residents would be alerted through social media, local press and the district’s website at www.sechelt.ca.

“Not everyone is on those platforms, I understand that. But we’ll try to get it out as quickly as [we] can and I’m sure if you see the blue boxes out you’ll have a hunch you should get yours out too.”
