A former Capilano College film instructor and director on The Beachcombers TV series has been convicted of numerous sex offences against young girls.

Following a three-week trial in Vancouver Supreme Court, Justice Paul Williamson found Michael Berry, 72, guilty on April 28 of offences against four of six children he was accused of molesting.

Berry had previously pleaded guilty to one of the six offences.

During the trial, the court heard the crimes had occurred over the course of several decades. Berry, a former director and acting coach, molested the children after offering them material goods and money.

Witnesses who testified during the trial said Berry took his victims to his beach house in Gibsons, a Vancouver hotel and even to his own home where he lived with his wife and daughter.

Justice Williamson found Berry not guilty of possession of child pornography after evidence seized during a search of his West Vancouver home was excluded.

Berry is expected back in court in the next few weeks where a date will be set for his sentencing hearing.
