Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for Oct. 21 to 28:
• On Oct. 24, an interrupted break and enter was reported at a building in the 5700 block of Surf Circle Crescent, Sechelt. The suspect, described as a tall male wearing a paintball mask with a machete strapped to his back, fled the scene on a red bike. The suspect, who has been identified, is known to police and the file is still under investigation.
• Early on Oct. 22, a break and enter in progress was reported at a business in the 5500 block of Wharf Avenue, Sechelt. Police attended and located the male suspect, who had broken a glass door to gain entry, inside the premises. The male was arrested and found to be in possession of items from the business. The male, who is known to police, was taken to the detachment and charges of break and enter to a business are being recommended. The file is still under investigation.
• On the evening of October 24, a suspicious truck was reported parked by a business in the 5500 block of Chawilin Avenue, Sechelt. A witness approached an unknown male standing outside the vehicle, which was parked in such as way as to be out of view from the road, and as the witness began jotting down the truck’s licence plate number, the male got into the vehicle and drove off immediately. Police attended the property with the business owner and determined that no actual entry to the premises had been made. But when police made patrols at the business in the early morning of Oct. 25, they noted signs that someone had gained entry to the property by tampering with a gate. Police are still trying to determine if anything has actually been stolen. The file is still under investigation.
Collision
• On Oct. 24, police attended a single-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near Leek Road, Roberts Creek, after a southbound vehicle driver tried to avoid hitting a bear that ran out onto the highway in front of her vehicle. The driver hit the brakes but the bear collided into the driver’s side front quarter panel and carried on running into the brush. The driver and passenger were unhurt but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On Oct. 23, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 6400 block of Highway 101, Sechelt, after a vehicle went off the road into the hedging. The uninjured lone driver and occupant was unable to explain why she went off road and was not impaired. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to remain right and the vehicle was towed. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
• On Oct. 23, police attended a two-vehicle incident in the 800 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. It appeared the first vehicle pulled out of a parking lot into traffic and the second vehicle was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. Fortunately, no injuries were reported by any of the drivers or occupants and the damage to both vehicles was minor. The matter has been referred to ICBC.
Shoplifting
• On Oct. 21, a theft was captured on surveillance video at a business in the 900 block of Gibsons Way, Gibsons. The female suspect is seen trying on a pair of boots, then putting them in her bag before leaving the premises without paying for them. The suspect has been identified and the file is still under investigation.
Bike Theft
• Between Oct. 22 and 24, a suspect stole a bike from outside a residence in the 800 block of Poplar Lane, Gibsons. The stolen bike is described as a dark green GT 21-speed mountain bike with front suspension, a ripped seat, and a black bike rack with a white basket. Anyone with any information about this theft is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2019-7419.
