A man was rescued after he went overboard from a BC Ferries vessel near Bowen Island on Tuesday.

About 15 minutes after the Queen of Cowichan left Horseshoe Bay for Departure Bay at 8:45 a.m., the crew was alerted that there was a man overboard, said BC Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall.

BC Ferries launched a rescue boat and recovered the man at 9:30 a.m.

The man was brought back to the ferry and then transferred to a Canadian Coast Guard hovercraft, which took him to Vancouver, where paramedics were waiting to take him to hospital.

Marshall said the man was in stable condition, “but very cold.”

She said there is no indication of how or why the man entered the water.

The ferry was delayed about an hour.
