BC Ferries has cancelled sailings on the Langdale – Horseshoe Bay and Horseshoe Bay – Nanaimo routes because of a mechanical problem with the Queen of Coquitlam.
Engineers discovered a damaged bearing in the ship’s gearbox during routine maintenance and it will be out of service until at least Oct. 5.
The cancelled sailings on the Langdale run are the 5:50 p.m. from Horseshoe Bay and the 7:00 p.m out of Langdale.
Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries said Monday that they are hoping to have the Coquitlam back in service in time for Thanksgiving weekend, but will have a contingency plan in place if needed.
Marshall also said the company’s customer service office will be contacting travellers with reservations on the cancelled sailings to make other arrangements.
