Early October will be busy for voters and candidates in the federal election, with four major all-candidates forums scheduled for Oct. 5 to 10.

• The Gibsons Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its forum for Saturday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at Harmony Hall in Gibsons.

“Gibsons voters are engaged and invested in all government elections,” said chamber president Deb Mowbray. “We anticipate at least as strong if not stronger turnout for voting as 2015 when the Sunshine Coast was a strong driving force in the election of our federal member of Parliament. And we at the chamber know our community will be asking the candidates hard questions on a wide range of topics at this event.”

Coast Reporter’s Sean Eckford will moderate the forum and priority will be given to questions emailed to the Gibsons Chamber at [email protected] in advance, or delivered in writing before the start of the forum.

For further information please contact the Gibsons Chamber office at 604-886-2325 or [email protected]

• The Sechelt Chamber of Commerce has its all candidates meeting planned for Oct. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Chatelech Secondary School. Reserved seating is being offered for chamber members who register in advance.

This forum will also be moderated by Coast Reporter’s Sean Eckford.

For more information visit the Sechelt Chamber’s Facebook page.

• Voice Lab will host an event focusing on housing, transportation, childcare and economic issues facing 18 to 40 year olds, Oct. 8 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Roberts Creek Hall.

Voice lab is encouraging people to submit questions by email at: [email protected], via their Facebook page or on Twitter @voiceonthecoast

The group is also offering on-site childcare from 6:30 until 9:30, but spaces are limited and the group is asking people who want childcare to RSVP through the Facebook page or by email at: [email protected]

• The Sunshine Coast Alliance4Democracy and the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association have scheduled an Environment and Climate Change All Candidates Forum for Oct. 10 at the Roberts Creek Hall starting at 7 p.m.

“Polls reveal that climate change and its related environmental challenges are foremost in the mind of many Canadians. But do our politicians believe this?” the organizers asked in a release. “Will the next government representatives embrace the serious challenges that we are all facing here and around the world? How will they demonstrate leadership to protect our environment for current and future generations?”

Some questions have already been submitted to the candidates in advance. Those questions, and responses, will be posted at the Conservation Association website: www.thescca.ca
