Dr. Fun (aka Gary Gilbert) has been on the Coast for almost three years after living in the Kootenays where he founded and fronted a 10-piece R&B band for 28 years called Dr. Fun & the Nightcrawlers.

They shared thestage with a lot of great regional and national bands at festivals and clubsthroughoutthe Okanagan,Washington and B.C. andbecame a household name in the area.

Since moving to the Coast, Gilbert has been sitting in here and there with different bands and he also opened for Harry Manx last November. During the past couple of years he's been piecing together a brand new band called Dr. Fun and the Painkillers with some of the best musicians on theCoast, seasoned proswho are well loved andrespected in the community. The new band features Allan Alford on lead guitar and vocals, Peter Van Deursen on Hammond B3/piano and vocals, Sully Antonyk on bass and vocals and John Rule on the skins. Peter Lietz will be running the sound.

This hot new band is guaranteed to warm your hearts and take away any pain that ails you before Valentine's Day with a dance on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Creek Hall. Doors open at 8:30 and the band will kick things off at 9 p.m.

These guys are laying downahuge rockin' bluesgroove thatwill haveyou dancing all night.

Tickets are $20, available at Strait Music in Sechelt, MELOmania in Roberts Creek and Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts in Sechelt. Proceeds from the dance will in part benefit Dakota Ridge.
