Two concerts in one night

Local audiences haven't seen much of Gibsons singer-songwriter Lowry Olafson lately. He's been away a lot. Truth is, he's been leading a double life.

Local audiences haven't seen much of Gibsons singer-songwriter Lowry Olafson lately. He's been away a lot. Truth is, he's been leading a double life.

By day, he's been writing, recording and performing songs with school kids across western Canada, as part of his school program From the Page to the Stage in One Day! By night, he's been performing for adult audiences and writing new songs for his upcoming CD. On Friday, April 18, he'll put it all together in two concerts at the Gibsons Heritage Playhouse.

The 7 p.m. concert, School's Almost Out, is for families, with four songs performed by songwriting classes from Langdale, Roberts Creek, Sechelt and Kinnikinnick elementary schools. The show will also feature more great songs written by other schools as well as zany violin antics and Lowry's own songs that celebrate family life.

The 8:30 p.m. show will be a new CD sneak preview concert for adults with Paul Steenhuis on bass and guitar, John Rule on drums, and other special guests. Kids are welcome, but this show is primarily aimed at grown-ups. Bursting with a brand new batch of songs, Olafson's trio will be heading into the studio in June, but before they do, they are going to offer this opportunity for a sneak preview of the new songs and sound. All seats are $8 for the family concert and $10 for the sneak preview concert, or attend both shows for $15. Tickets are available at Coast Books in Gibsons and Insightful Visions Eyewear in Sechelt.
