The Synchronicity Festival opens this Friday, Aug. 22, at Shirley Macey Park near Gibsons. It’s way different this year with music on the main stage from Butler in the Hey, Queer as Funk, Skye Wallace, Mimosa and others. Also there are many workshops — from building bat houses to poetry readings and a mural project.
And, of course, the Rain-forest Circus puts on several performances among the trees each day. The festival opens at 4:30 Friday and runs to 11 p.m. and again on Saturday (10 a.m. to 11 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Summer music
The Sechelt Summer Music series continues this weekend on Saturday, Aug. 23, in an afternoon show with The Budge Schachte Trio: Budge Schachte, guitar, Karen Graves, sax, and John Parker-Paulson, bass, on the public library lawn at 12:30 p.m. That evening it’s singer/songwriter night when Joe Denham and his band perform original songs from his upcoming CD at 7 p.m.
Sanctuary
Little bird media & friends presents a healing ceremony of love and devotion — Sanctuary: Still Moving Inside the Heart — with sacred teachings from the First Nations medicine wheel and devotional offerings of classical Indian temple dance. All are welcomed to come together to honour spirit, celebrate life and pray for hearts in need.
The New Moon Festival Society is presenting the event this Saturday, Aug. 23, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Grantham’s Hall (846 Church Road) in Gibsons.

Stone sculpting
A stone sculpting weekend workshop with popular artist and sculptor Don Watson is offered for adult beginners and intermediates this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 23 and 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rock n’Art gallery in Gibsons. Our Forest
A year in the planning, the next exhibition at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery is titled Our Forest.
The 23 participating artists work in a variety of mediums, styles and themes and the exhibition promises a range of interpretations that will both celebrate and provoke discussion around the forest that surrounds and sustains us.
Our Forest will present a wide range of individual and creative interpretations, thoughtfully outlined in each artist’s personal statement. This collection of original work is intended to raise awareness with a broad audience and promote discussion throughout the community.
The exhibition will be complemented by feature events at GPAG. Also appearing in the Eve Smart Gallery is Poetry of Branches by Vancouver artist Sherry Cooper.
The opening reception is this Saturday, Aug. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Poetry Night
Poetry Night in Canada is written and performed by Jeffrey Renn on Thursday, Aug. 28 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Roberts Creek Cohousing Common House, 1131 Emery Road.
Poetry Night in Canada is a one-man show that has been toured across Canada to consistent acclaim. A brilliant effort composed of Canadian poems about the entire landscape of Canada this is a show for lovers of the True North.
Please park in the cul-de-sac at the entrance to cohousing and take the three-minute walk up to the common house or come by bus — a six-minute walk from the intersection of Roberts Creek and Lower roads.
Dance Under Stars
The Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club presents its annual dinner/Dance Under The Stars next Saturday, Aug. 30. Dinner is at 7 p.m. and dessert is at the dance intermission.
