Songs of the Earth II celebrates nature

Two Pender Harbour artists will celebrate and explore nature through their exhibition Songs of the Earth II, at the Harbour Gallery in Madeira Park, May 28 to June 7.

Fran Sevier and Pat Jobb will present a collection of recent works ranging from acrylic paintings to collagraphic and drypoint prints to photographs.

Sevier studied art at the San Francisco City College. Now living in Pender Harbour, she is actively pursuing one of her first loves -painting. Working in acrylics, she is happiest when exploring the many dimensions of water.

"Water is my special interest," Sevier said. "It can be a puddle, a steam, a lake or the ocean. Water is dynamic and filled with moods. My challenge is to try to capture reflections, slippery colours and the mysteries down below."

She has often been known to shout "stop the car" so she can take a closer look, photo or sketch of a unique scene.

Jobb is a multi-disciplinary artist who studied art at the University of Alberta. She works primarily in fine art printmaking, drawing and photography.

"In this exhibition, I am pleased to be able to share with viewers my fascination with the tactility of the natural world, along with my delight in patterns, light and colour," Jobb said.

She adds that her art is influenced, in part, by the many sailing trips she and her husband have taken over the past couple of decades, particularly along the B.C. coast.

"Each voyage has been a voyage of discovery -the discovery of rugged shores, rocks, shell-laden beaches and jagged trees," she said.

The exhibit will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at the Harbour Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 28, from 2 to 5 p.m.
