Return to Art Farm

For some it was a return visit. Deer Crossing, the farm near Langdale, held its second annual open house, Return, last weekend and revealed itself once more to be raw nature lightly touched by artists.

For some it was a return visit. Deer Crossing, the farm near Langdale, held its second annual open house, Return, last weekend and revealed itself once more to be raw nature lightly touched by artists.

Co-creative directors Sandy Buck and Chad Hershler put on a puppet show for the many visitors in the laurel spiral that protects a campfire, the heart of the art farm. Everyone was encouraged to walk: either through a labyrinthine, meditative path among the hay bales or through the outdoor gallery that wound up a hillside trail to showcase the work of Art Farm's curator Diego Samper and other artists in a natural setting.

Susanne Biden's sculpture peeked from among the trees while Meghan Elizabeth Corsie's Lady of the Forest lived in an alder clearing. Samper's bamboo kinetic sculptures clacked in the breeze, and his Shelter, a domed tent, was popular with kids. Musicians Tinfish performed and the Critical Mask Theatre Collective also put on a show. More about the site can be found at www.deercrossingtheartfarm.org.
