Sunshine Coast Arts Council is happy to announce that Ourselves & Others, a portrait exhibit by the Life and Limn painting group, opens in the Doris Crowston Gallery at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre on Nov. 3.

Nine members of the Life & Limn Painting Group began to paint one another a couple of years ago as a break from their usual pursuits. "Portrait painting is a daunting business, particularly when the model is someone known to you. The model has to bear the close scrutiny of the artists for a long time, while the artist faces a blank canvas with the goal of making marks that will convey something essential and true about that person," said Mudito Drope.

Everyone's expectations hover in the air. The artist's task is particularly demanding as the sitting lasts just one hour, after which the artists take their canvases home to work on them further.

Each artist is also showing a self portrait, perhaps the most demanding endeavour any portrait painter will face, given the extremely personal nature of everyone's self image. The show includes the following artists: Diedre Goodwin, Monica Robb, Mudito Drope, Jan Poynter, Cindy Riach, Russ Tkachuk, Marjory Lambert, Brian Romer and Marilyn Marshall.

Please join us as we celebrate this exhibition. The opening reception for Ourselves & Others is on Wednesday, Nov. 3, starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The exhibition will run to Sunday, Nov. 28.
