The unofficial start to winter activities, the Banff Mountain Film Festival came rolling into town on Friday, Nov. 20, much to the enjoyment of local outdoor enthusiasts.

Anticipation of the event was felt throughout the room as a near capacity crowd at Elphinstone Secondary School buzzed about. The festival was made up of eight different short films, each unique in form.

The first film was a showpiece of mountain bike riding from some of the best riders around the world including a piece from local producer Bjorn Enga.

Sunshine Coast riders Curtis Robinson, Kyle Norbraten, Dylan Duggerton and Kyle Jameson put on their A game in showcasing true Coastal riding. The terrain, coupled with imaginative obstacles, will definitely have gear heads around the world wanting to ascend the mountains we have here in our backyard.

The remaining films were a mix of ingenuity and personal accomplishment. If you haven't attended a show before, make plans to do so next year, as the festival is more than just spills and chills.

One woman's journey to row across the Atlantic alone was enough to inspire anyone. The German short film left everyone roaring with laughter and amazed at an incredible sliding feat. From a single man's tandem bike journey to free climbing mountain climbing with no ropes up 700-metre granite cliffs, the films left everyone entertained.

Thanks to the Tetra-hedron Outdoor Club and the sponsors for bringing this show to our community once again well done.
