Internationally renowned Acadian soprano Suzie LeBlanc and Robert Kortgaard, one of Canada's favourite collaborative pianists, open the new season of concerts from the Pender Harbour Music Society on Sunday, Oct. 24.
LeBlanc's luminous performances of 17th and 18th century repertoire are famous for the story she tells with her voice and the warm connection she makes with her rapt audiences. She has worked with many of the world's leading early music ensembles in concert and opera performances as well as on film and on disc. Concerts have taken her to festivals all over the world including the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Wigmore Hall and the Konzerthaus in Vienna.
On the opera stage, she has performed for De Nederlandse Opera, Festival de Beaune, Opéra de Montréal, the Boston Early Music Festival, Tanglewood, Festival Vancouver and Early Music Vancouver. A thirst and curiosity for new vistas has lead her toward the repertoire of French melodies, lieder, Acadian folk music and contemporary music as well as exploring the art of improvisation. Kortgaard is one of Canada's most respected concert pianists, having appeared with most of the country's leading orchestras and recital societies. Kortgaard has become one of the most in-demand colleagues of Canada's esteemed vocalists and is a frequent partner of sopranos Measha Brueggergosman and Wendy Nielsen, mezzo-soprano Jean Stilwell and cabaret diva Patricia O'Callaghan.
Tickets for the 3 p.m. concert are available at Harbour Insurance, John Henry's Marina, the Sechelt Visitors Centre and Gaia's Fair Trade.
