On Saturday, from 7 to 9 p.m. Music in the Landing presents a special event, Brilliant Harmony, at St. Bart's Church.
This is an outstanding women's choir based in Tokyo and formed in 1988 by leading Japanese choral musician Ko Matsushita. The choir has earned a sterling reputation in its home country through popular annual concerts and recordings.
In 2004 it won the Grand Prize at the Tolosa Choral Contest in Spain, and in 2005 was the first Asian women's choir to win the European Grand Prix Award.
This event has been made available to Music in the Landingthrough a collaboration with MusicFest Vancouver and the sponsorship of Windsor Plywood. Opening the show will be the local classical duo Tinfish, Paul Pinsonnault and Valerie Jackson.The show is free with donations gratefully appreciated.
Music in the Landing continues in its outdoor format tonight (Friday) from 7 to 8 p.m. at the gazebo on the wharf with Sweet Cascadia,and the engaging lyrics and uplifting temposof Kia Nielsen, Mark Lebbell, Jenny Grooves and Brett Heneke.
On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,the seven-piece groove and funk beat group Sangita will perform in Pioneer Square, followed by former Coast fiddlers, James Law and Graeme McGillivray from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Pink House, next to Leo's.
On Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. head to the Sundial stage next to the Sunday Market to hear In Good Company with harmonies and guitars from Brian & Billie Corbett and Andy & Bronwyn Amanovich.
Craft fair
When you visit the Festival of the Written Arts in Sechelt this weekend be sure and drop in to the Sunshine Coast Arts Council's biggest fundraising event, their annual Hackett Park Craft Fair.
This is one of the largest juried art and craft fairs in B.C. with local and visiting artisans alike showing and selling from 95-plus booths in the park. There's also live entertainment, food concessions and children's activities. The fair runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for seniors.

The Sunshine Coast Nursery is thrilled to present the talented quilt artist Pat Crucil. She will be displaying her quilts at the Nursery from Aug. 13 to 15. Meet the artist on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
101 Art
It's August, the Fibre Arts Festival is just around the corner, and the Out of Bounds Quilters have taken over the walls at 101 Office Supply again on Cowrie Street in Sechelt. Marie Barry, Leslie Bing, Ann Dickie, Trisha Joel, Laura Mann, Judy Ross, Sharon Roye, Sybil Seel, Jill Sullivan, and Charis Webb supplied the pieces for this show. They encompass a broad range of designs and sizes, displaying the creative possibilities of traditional materials.
Good Vibes
On Aug. 20 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. the Jordao PhotoGraphic Studio Gallery is honoured to be hosting DJ Rennie "Dubnut" Foster (Rebirth/Dirty Works/Subject: Detroit/Pumphouse) from Tokyo, Japan, on the Coast for one night of non-stop dance floor action.
This is Another Good Vibe Throw Down with guest DJ Intrinsic plus a new photography exhibit, The Still Life, by local artist Raquel Fors. Tickets for $15 are available at The Liquid Living Room in Lower Gibsons and at Jordao Gallery. Admission is $20 at the door. It's a 19-plus event. For more information call 604-740-2380. Colouring Book
A new colouring book is a hit with kids and it's selling for $4 at various stores on the Coast. A Visit 2 the Sunshine Coastis Special is a local production designed, written and illustrated by Trish Thompson with assistance from Cody Chancellor. The illustrations and text are charming and answer a visitor's question as to what makes the Coast so special.
On Friday, Aug. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. Thompson will be signing copies of her story at Bluewaters Books inMadeiraPark. The colouring book is also available at many locations including Wheatberries and Talewind Books in Sechelt, Elements in Roberts Creek and Trinkets and Treasures in Gibsons.
Ferry artisans
The Ferry Craft Market at Langdale terminal is in full swing every day this August. Local artisans show and sell their work to the many summer visitors languishing in the lot while they await a ferry. Choose from art cards, jewellery, soaps and lotions, clothing, pottery, calligraphy, fine woodworking and even hand-crafted gelato made on location.
Outside Access
Gibsons artist Alex Cieslik presents his latest series of work, Outside Access, at the Little Mountain Gallery in Vancouver from Aug. 12 to 26. At the intersection of graffiti and fine art, Outside Access explores the boundaries between the gallery's interior and exterior, with both a series of recent paintings and a transformation of the gallery itself by way of several large-scale murals. Cieslik has been part of several Vancouver art shows and he has shown work in Mexico, Barcelona, and London. Examples of his work can be found at vintageaerosol.com.
