The Sunshine Coast Music Society is delighted to introduce an annual Homecoming Weekend to showcase young musicians returning from their off-Coast studies next Friday, June 17, and Sunday, June 19, at Gibsons' Heritage Playhouse.
At 7:30 p.m. June 17, soprano Elizabeth Currie Buono presents a solo vocal recital with piano collaborator Tom Kellough.As a student, she completed her RCM Grade 9 piano, performed on violin with the Community Orchestra and Youth Orchestra, on trumpet with Elphinstone Secondary School band and sang with Choralations Youth Choir. Buono has completed her bachelor of music (voice major) at UBC and in recent years travelled with various ensembles and choirs to China and the UK. She was also invited to sing in the chorus of the opera Paradise Lost at Carnegie Hall in New York.
At 2 p.m. Sunday, June 19, the society welcomes award-winning young performers from the Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts, community ensembles, school bands and choirs. The second half of the concert features Gibsons' Chris Rzepa in her group, The Gentle Infidels, an upbeat combination of cello, bass and guitar. Tickets are $15 adults/seniors and $10 students, available at Laedeli (formerly Hallmark) in Gibsons and Strait Music in Sechelt.
Sea Things
Harbour Gallery in Madeira Park is showing an exhibition of local artists' work, Sea Things, from now to June 21. This show features the work of Pat Walsh, Diane Aulis and Nefri Lyske. The artists' reception is this Saturday, June 11, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Artworks Show
Artworks Gallery & Framing is holding a special exhibit of the work of the late Britton Francis of Sechelt. His watercolours and illustrations will be up until July 9. Artworks is located beside Carola's Quilt Shop in Gibsons.

Gibsons Public Art Gallery presents Ian Hooley's Stone Tides carvings in soapstone, alabaster, etc., andHilary Anne Stephens' Haiku, interpretive, award-winning photography, with both shows on from now until July 12. Earnest
Captured live in high-definition at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway, Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest is a comedic masterpiece about class, courtship and good old-fashioned name dropping. Tony Award winner Brian Bedford directs and stars as Lady Bracknell in this comedy.
The critically-acclaimed performance plays at the Raven's Cry Theatre on Monday and Tuesday (June 13 and 14) at 8 p.m. Run time is two hours, 55 min, including one intermission. All tickets are $20, including taxes. Call the theatre at 604-885-4597 and have your ticket held.
Sarama show
Showing now at the Gibsons Public Library is an exhibit of photography by Sarama. These images rendered in colour and black and white range from a Mayan temple at Ek Balam, Mexico, to rural and street scenes in Cuba.Prominently displayed is one of the artist's recurring themes, trees: arbutus, aspen, Garry oak or pine.This diverse collection reflects the artist's eclectic and wide-ranging interests.
Macleod show
Halfmoon Bay artist Ian Macleod has an exhibition of his abstract paintings, all acrylic on canvas, hanging at the Gumboot Restaurant in Roberts Creek throughout the month of June. See more of his work at www.ianmacleodpaintings.ca.

Point Counterpoint, an exhibition of work by photographer Paul Clancy, is now on show at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt until June 26.
The Doris Crowston Gallery will be open for your visits Wednesday to Saturday from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 4. The exhibition originally scheduled for this time could not bepresented for reasons outside of the Arts Council's control.
Suncoast Singers
Rock, Pop and Mellowis a reflection of the energetic music presented by Suncoast Singers this spring. The music director is Joy McLeod and the accompanist is Paula Seward. From the beautiful Sanctus by Charles Gounod to Under the Boardwalk, the choir presents an eclectic mix for your listening enjoyment. The Reflections share aguest performance at the concerts.
First concert is next Friday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Gibsons United Church and Sunday, June 19, at 2 p.m. at St. Hilda's Church in Sechelt. Tickets are available for $15, available at Laedeli or at Monkeychips in Sechelt.
Art fundraiser
Third Coast International Public Art Society will be hosting a benefit for public art, a fundraiser that will help bring two art installations, Lotus in Motion by artist Gordon Halloran, to VanDusen Gardens in Vancouver. The event takes place in Roberts Creek next Friday, June 17, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the artist's studio with a preview of the artwork in the garden pond, as well as tapas and wine tasting, a silent auction and an exclusive debut preview of the artist's permanent Lotus paintings.
