Heavenly music in St. Hilda's

Motet
motet

The Chamber ensemble Motet, seven choristers in fine voice, performed at St. Hilda’s Anglican Church on Jan. 2, also known as the Ninth Day of Christmas.

The concert, organized by choir conductor David Poon, sung carols or other scriptural works for each of the 12 days of the Christmas season ending with Epiphany.

The word Motet is from the Latin for the concept of heavenly music of the church performed on earth and it draws inspiration from bible scriptures, hymns and little known carols.

Poon invited the audience to treat it like a performance rather than a service, and he offered some background to each of the pieces and a chance to sing along with traditional carols such as The First Nowell.

This concert was presented in partnership with St. Hilda’s.
