Although the excitement in the family room of the Gibsons and Area Community Centre wasn't as intense as in the lobby, where dozens of hockey enthusiasts were watching the Canada/U.S. Olympic hockey final, players in the fifth annual A Way With Words competition also delivered gold medal performances Sunday, Feb. 28, raising $650 for the Gibsons & District Library Foundation.

During breaks between the four word-building games, some contestants rushed into the lobby to check out the hockey action and then joined delirious fans in singing O Canada after Sidney Crosby's overtime goal gave Canada the victory.

Brenna Johnson, Donna McMahon and Heidi Drope won book prizes for winning the first game, Three-Word Overlap. Ian and Cindy Dayneswood took the second game, Lucky 13. Cheryl Baron, Bert Reeve and Joanne McNevin came out on top in the third game, Two Sentences, and Mike Williamson and Lynda Coote received new books for the fourth game, Scrabble With A Difference.

Book prizes were also presented to John McNevin for raising the most money through pledges (about $300) and to organizer Vern Giesbrecht of the Library Foundation.
