Two original rock bands, one from Vancouver and one from the Coast, will be featured at the Halfmoon Bay fire department fundraiser this Saturday, March 26, at 9 p.m. at the Sechelt Legion Hall. Krome (www.krome.ca) from Vancouver and local rock band Sinmobile (www.reverbnation.com/sinmobile) perform. Also, look for raffle prizes, 50/50 draws, and the Sunshine Coast Roller Girls (www.scrg.ca) who will be on hand to help out. Tickets are $10 at the door or from any Halfmoon Bay firefighter.
Welcome Beach

Gospel jam
If you enjoy listening to and singing gospel music, you won't want to miss the final event of the season on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Gibsons United Church. Kelly Smit conducts a community gospel choir that is accompanied by a jazz trio of Ken Dalgleish on piano, Boyd Norman on bass and Tim Enns on percussion.Admission is by donation.
Frenz and family
Miss Berni G joins her crew of talented local musicians for their annual concert of music, comedy and old-fashioned fun. Frenz and Family is a one performance only show at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt next Saturday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m.
Miss Berni G loves her musical collaborations - she started on the Coast as a solo act and is now part of a quartet. Her "frenz" are: Boyd Norman on bass, musicologist Ian McLatchie on steel guitar, Al Burns on drums and Gary McGuire on guitar and vocals. Sharing the stage for this family show is musician Paul Pinsonnault with his sons Angelo and Leo, and a mother/daughter act, Da Newfie Duo, who will sing East Coast songs. Four docs
The SC Film Society presents four evenings of documentary films featuring cultural heroes who have empowered, encouraged and inspired significant social and cultural change with courage and creativity. These most popular films were screened at DOXA 2010, Vancouver's Documentary Film Festival. On Friday, April 1, you can attend an opening reception (6:30 to 7:30 p.m.) and meet special guests from DOXA, Dorothy Woodend (festival programmer) and Kris Anderson (founder and former festival director) followed by a film, The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls, an award-winning, hilarious look at New Zealand's talented musicians and comedians, the lesbian, activist, yodelling identical twins, Lynda and Jools Topp.?
On Saturday, April 2, celebrate the 40th anniversary of Greenpeace with special guest Stephanie Goodwin, B.C. director of Greenpeace, and the Rainbow Warriors of Waiheke Island. On Sunday, April 3, the film is Buffy Sainte-Marie: A Multimedia Life. On Monday, April 4, the presentation is Six Miles Deep with special guest Barbara Higgins, Sechelt First Nations Elder.
All events are at Gibsons' Heritage Play-house with screenings at 7:30 p.m. Opening night, $15, Satur-day, Sunday $10 and Mon-day, regular film prices. Next Saturday, April 2, FibreWorks Gallery near Madeira Park opens its season with Landscapes of the Soul - a collection of work by Hilary Rice of Cornerbrook, Nfld. The artist will be on hand to meet gallery visitors at the opening and will then present a five-day workshop, Magic Rainbow Treasure Trove (creation of your magnum opus tome for quilters), April 4 to 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Since workshops fill up fast, you must preregister by contacting Yvonne Stowell at www.fibreworksgallery.com or call 604-883-2380.
