Film screening to benefit Friendship Village

This film tells the remarkable story of how Vietnam veteran George Mizo, along with the Vietnamese general who killed his entire platoon in 1968, built a village in Vietnam for children with Agent Orange-related deformities. Proceeds from this event go to the village. Doors open at 7 p.m., film is at 7:30. Admission is $10 (at the door).

Ruff Cut

Get on your dancing shoes, tonight (Friday) at 7 p.m. at the Sechelt Legion as local rock/pop band Ruff Cut takes the stage with theirrepertoire of songs ofclassic hits from the '50s to '70s. The Legion serves dinner starting at 6, and there's no cover charge.

Kuniko Kato

On Saturday, Labora-torio and the Gibsons Landing Jazz Fest present Kuniko Kato with guests Giorgio Magnanensi, Barry Taylor and Andrew Bate at the Roberts Creek Hall at 8 p.m. This is an all-ages, seated performance in the round. Tickets are $10, available at WindSong Gallery, Melomania, Gaia's Fair Trade and at the door.

Money film

On Monday, April 19, the S.C. Film Society presents Let's Make Money, an Austrian film that gives a revealing look at our current financial system and follows your funds through the system. It screens at 7:30 p.m. at the Heritage Playhouse. See www.scfs.ca for more.

Big Band

Lots of brass and many of the same great players you heard at the Suncoast Concert Band performance last month will be featured at the Creek Big Band concert at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons, on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $15 ($12 students), at Gaia's Fair Trade or WindSong Gallery.

Proceeds go to scholarships for music students on the Coast. For further details, call 604-885-6756.

Welsh Men's Choir

Two concerts are planned this weekend with the Vancouver Welsh Men's Choir, who are on their 2010 concert tour. The first is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Madeira Park Community

Hall with the Pender Harbour Choir, then 2 p.m. Sunday at Raven's Cry Theatre in Sechelt with the SunCoast Singers. Tickets are $22, available at Bluewaters Books, Monkey Chips and Hallmark Cards.

In each concert, the local choir will perform two or three pieces from their own choir's repertoire, as well as one with the Men's Choir.

Family concert

Lowry Olafson gives a family concert at the Arts Building in Gibsons on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. The hour-long concert is perfectly suited for school-age kids and their parents. Newberry & Lamb

Following their successful tour of B.C. in January, David Newberry and James Lamb are touring in support of Newberry's newest record, When We Learn The Things We Need To Learn, released on Northern Elec-tric records. Psychic Mojo Puja

Journey with multi-instrumentalist John Thomp-son and photo artist Alan Sirulnikoff when they present an entrancing evening of music and images on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Arts Building (beside Gibsons Library). Live from London

The Raven's Cry Theatre has introduced a new program of live theatre via satellite in high definition. The National Theatre in London presents The Habit of Art, a new play by Alan Bennett, on Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m. In the play, composer Benjamin Britten seeks advice from his former collaborator and friend poet W.H. Auden, in an imagined meeting.

Vocal Intent

Roses I Send to You is the title of a concert of songs with the group Vocal Intent on Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. Hilda's Church in Sechelt. Admission is by donation.
