Driftwood Theatre School finds new home

Driftwood Theatre School kicks off 2011 with an exciting expansion of new classes in a new home.

"Finding the right space with room to expand in a convenient, safe and central location close to public transit can be challenging," said co-administrator JoAnne Bennison.

"We were thrilled to discover St. Bart's in Gibsons was available, with space for classes, performances and an office all under one roof. It's a perfect fit, especially given St. Bart's long tradition of theatrical performances."

Driftwood Theatre School, under the auspices of Driftwood Players, opened in September with acting classes for ages 10 to 19. A new term begins this month with the addition of acting classes for adults and creative drama for eight to 10 year olds. The current drama in the Creek class for 10 to 13 year olds will remain at Roberts Creek Elementary School at present, but all other classes will be consolidated at St. Bart's.

"It's a case of great need meeting great need," added Patricia Hetherington, who heads the committee at St. Bart's to look into greater community involvement at the parish facility. "The timing could not be better. Driftwood Theatre School was looking for space at the same time we were looking to reach out into the community. It seems to have been a case of divine intervention."

Registration for term two (January to April) will be held Sunday, Jan. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons. For more information, contact instructors Ingrid Bilton at 604-886-2770 or Sally Williams at 604-886-1281.

Information is also available on-line at driftwoodplayers.ca and the Driftwood Theatre School Facebook site.
