Driftwood Theatre School marks its fifth anniversary with the arrival of Jessie Award-winning actor and instructor Varya Rubin to teach a new class for six to nine year olds as well as an Acting and Scene Study for Adults and Teens.
“We’ve really hit our stride, with classes for every age and experience level,” noted DTS co-founder Ingrid Bilton, who is especially thrilled with the arrival of their newest instructor. “Varya brings such an incredible wealth of professional experience in stage, film and television. Her enthusiasm and love for theatre is so contagious and is sure to light that same fire in her students.”
“One of the tragedies of our modern era is that we’ve stopped telling our stories. It’s so easy now to just go and watch TV,” Rubin said. “I love it when children and actors discover how to access the storyteller and share the emotional experience, to open up and access feelings they otherwise wouldn’t have a way to channel.”
Rubin takes over the Family Fun Class for Parents and Kids, as well as teaching two new courses this fall – FUNdamentals: Drama for six to nine year olds, and Acting and Scene Study for Adults and Teens which includes in-depth script work and scene study with a strong emphasis on vocal technique.
Instructor/director Ingrid Bilton returns following the wildly successful Alice in Wonderland with a Shakespeare Touring Troupe (12 to 17 years) and a Discovering Drama Class for nine to 12 year olds in Roberts Creek.
Classes start in mid-September and October. For more information contact Sandi at 604-886-0143, [email protected] or see www.driftwoodplayers.ca/dts.htm
