Last November, Caravan World Rhythms launched its Dance-PLUS performance series with a spectacular flamenco show at the Raven's Cry Theatre. The Dance series continues in 2008 with an equally engaging event: Mixed Motions, a captivating evening of contemporary dance and dance film, featuring some of British Columbia's best emerging and established dancers and creators.

The Tomorrow Collective and Sunshine Coast's award-winning dancer Alison Denham (pictured) will offer a mixed dance program that will feature solos, a duet and dance-inspired films, providing a diverse and engaging experience for both traditional and new dance audiences. Fresh, intense, playful, poignant, innovative, surprising, athletic, sensual, provocative, charismatic these are all descriptors for the creations that will be on stage at the intimate Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons. Through their dance and film creations, the dancers will tell stories of father-daughter relations, ecological commerce, social gossip and dirty laundry and slapstick friendships in bathing suits, reflecting many of today's personal and social challenges and opportunities. Audiences will be moved, provoked and entertained by Mixed Motions.

Mixed Motions is at the Heritage Playhouse at Gibsons on Friday, Jan. 25, and Saturday Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for students and free for children eight and under. Tickets are available at Gaia's Fair Trade (Gibsons), MELOmania (Roberts Creek), and Ashley's Books (Sechelt).

The Tomorrow Collective and Denham will also offer a free talk and demonstration on Saturday afternoon at the Gumboot Café in Roberts Creek and movement and choreography workshops on Sunday afternoon at Coast Academy of Dance in Sechelt.
