Library show
The colours of spring and summer are in full bloom indoors thanks to a new display of artwork at the Sechelt Public Library. The vibrant paintings featuring local flora are the work of Sechelt-based artist Jennifer Goodwin. “I have been lucky enough to take on a new space which opens up onto a lush garden so that I can work with the sounds and sights of nature to inspire me,” she said. Goodwin received her diploma in Fine Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 1992. Her work can also be found at the Vancouver Art Gallery’s rental and sales department, and at the WOW Art Gallery in Gibsons. Goodwin’s paintings can be viewed during regular library hours, and can be purchased directly from the artist.

Public art call
The City of Vancouver invites artists to expand their art practice and propose new artworks for sites in Vancouver that contemplate the city, its defining features, spaces and neighbourhoods. They have put out an open call for artists to create public art outside of constraints of site, theme or medium, allowing for explorations of all parts of the city. You do not have to be a resident of the city. Artists are invited to expand ideas of what public art is or does. Emerging or established artists may propose works in a range of media. Deadline for proposals is Wednesday, July 5 at 3 p.m. See vancouver.ca/publicart for application forms and more.
