The Coast Recital Society presents critically-acclaimed Canadian tenor Richard Margison and pianist Kinza Tyrrell in recital on Sunday afternoon, March 27, at 2:30 p.m. at the Raven's cry Theatre in Sechelt.
Perfect style, superb diction and thrilling high notes are hallmarks of Margison's artistry. Over the course of his career, he has established himself internationally as a tenor of rare power and quality. Margison's rise to the top of the opera world did not follow the traditional path - his career began in the coffeehouses and clubs of Victoria where he performed with his own rock band for 10 years. Since turning to opera, and making his debut in 1980 with Pacific Opera Victoria, he has gone on to take the opera world by storm. He has won international acclaim in the most prestigious theatres in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Vienna State Opera, Opera National Bastille, the Royal Opera Covent Garden and the Australian Opera.
His repertoire includes most of the great Italian tenor roles such as Manrico in Il trovatore, Radames in Aida, Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera, Calaf in Turandot and Canio in I pagliacci.
Pianist Kinza Tyrrell is principal repetiteur at Vancouver Opera and has a flourishing career as a vocal coach and recitalist. This recital is part of an extensive tour of B.C. that includes appearances in Kelowna, Nanaimo and Salt Spring Island. The Margison-Tyrrell program features music by Scarlatti, Massenet, Duparc, Beethoven and Puccini.
