The exceptional Russian pianist Yevgeny Sudbin performs for the Coast Recital Society (CRS) this Sunday afternoon, May 1, at 2:30 p.m. at the Raven's Cry Theatre in the final concert of the season.
This deeply expressive keyboard artist, known for the clarity of his playing and the range of keyboard colours he commands, was hailed by London's Daily Telegraph as "potentially one of the greatest pianists of the 21st century."
"How better to conclude this year's marvelous CRS concert season than to welcome Yevgeny Sudbin back for his third concert with us," said artistic director Frances Heinsheimer Wainwright. "The Sunshine Coast and our warm and appreciative CRS audience obviously hold a special appeal for this incredibly gifted young artist. He will certainly bring our concert series to a spectacular conclusion."
Born in St. Petersburg in 1980, Sudbin studied first at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and continued his studies in Berlin and in London, where he now resides. His recording of music by Scriabin won the 2008 MIDEM Classical Award at Cannes for the best Instrumental CD of the Year, while his concert appearances world-wide continue to earn him superlative reviews.
In addition to his recordings of the solo keyboard repertoire, he is currently recording the complete Beet-hoven Piano Concertos with the Minnesota Orchestra and conductor Osmo Vänskä. Recognized as one of the world's most gifted, interesting and exciting young artists, Gramophone magazine praised the "mother-of-pearl" sheen of Sudbin's pianism and The International Record Review stated that he is "one of the most important pianistic talents of our time."
