Auditions for St. Bart's Players' Tiny Tim Grows Up, a full-length play scheduled for Dec. 21 to 23 at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church in Gibsons, are set for Sunday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m. and Sunday Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. in the parish hall.

The play, subtitled Tiny Tim's Christmas, a Sequel to Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, has acting roles for more than 20 people, including adults and children, and the public is encouraged to try out for the play's many interesting parts. The play features Tim-othy Cratchit, formerly known as Tiny Tim. He has inherited Ebenezer Scrooge's nasty mood and manages the local toy store with a spirit of meanness, particularly at Christmas.

As the store's doors close for the Yule season, Tim finds himself in a similar situation as Ebenezer, but this time Scrooge is the hearty Ghost of Christmas Present who leads Tim through his past, present and future. The play is full of music, fun and theatrical surprises.

Rev. Peter van der Leelie, who studied theatre at Manitoba Theatre Centre and Camosun College, directs the show. He has performed in numerous plays and musicals in Winnipeg, Victoria, Edmonton, Kamloops and Qualicum Beach and has directed several others, including The Music Man and The Odd Couple. He was recipient of Vancouver Sun's best actor award for his portrayal of Jerry in Edward Albee's The Zoo Story. The production at Christmas time is geared for families and will have a low admission charge.
