Grace Sigurdson, or as she is known by her artist's name, Inga, is happy about the outcome of her recent work, an acrylic on canvas painting in her signature seashell shape. She has donated the piece, Going for the Gold, to the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.

"I feel it's in the right place," said the artist, since its theme reflects athletic achievement and it is laden with symbols of Canada's Olympic successes.

It depicts a snowboarder, represented by Canada's Maelle Ricker, a spirit bear that symbolizes the spirit of gold medallist Alexandre Bilodeau, and a reference to number one, that is, the winning hockey team, particularly Roberto Luongo.

"It's about inspiration, perspiration and celebration," she said, adding that it epitomizes the athletes and citizens who work hard to achieve positive goals. "My heart was truly in this painting."

Centre director Ted Chisholm is also happy with the donation. It has made him think harder about the need for an art donation policy since the community centre has been given other local artists' work that also deserves a place. The development of an arts donation policy will be given a priority in the near future, Chisholm said, by the program co-ordinator with input from the art community.
