I had a chance to visit the potter at work in her studio two months ago and can vouch that the results will be superior.

On Saturday, May 1, from 2 to 3 p.m., GPAG will host a meet the artist event with Forst. All are welcome to attend both events. Also, in the Harbour View Room, Mudito Drope shows her Images of a BC Life from April 22 to May 25.

Duo at Wild

TripLemon and The Copper Stills will play at a fundraiser for Kids Help Phone at the Wild Bistro in Gibsons tonight, Friday, from 6 to 9 p.m. Also at the Wild Bistro, join Steve Giltrow and Pat Collier on Friday, April 30, at 8 p.m.

This weekend

Miss Berni G's musical variety show, House Party, at the Heritage Playhouse this weekend is almost sold out. Check at ticket outlets for up to date information. The Festival of the Performing Arts is in full swing this week, and the piano encore concert takes place this Sunday, April 25, at 2 p.m. at the Arts Centre in Sechelt.

The Rotary Club's Art Auction offers food and wine delights along with dynamite art from local artists from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at Sunnycrest Mall.

Jump Back Jack

Jump Back Jack will be shaking it up this Saturday when they bring their mix of original roots, rock n' rhythm to the Roberts Creek Legion at 9 p.m. Jeremy Thom opens the evening with his melodic, hook-laden original tunes followed by JBJ to rock out the night. Admission is $5 for members and $10 for guests with members.

Roche shows

A staged reading of Roberts Creek author David Roche's new show, Catholic Erotica, takes place Tuesday, April 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arts Centre in Sechelt.

Catholic Erotica is funny, warm and edgy, but respectful. People of all religious and spiritual persuasions (and non-persuasions) will find humour in this show. Special guests are Julie McNamara of London, England, a renowned international solo performer, and Chris Tally Evans, visiting master Welsh storyteller.

On Wednesday, April 28, from 7 to 9 p.m., also at the Arts Centre, Roche leads a storytelling workshop with Evans. This workshop is for all levels, from people who think they are terminally shy to those who want to polish their skills. Suggested donation for both is $5 to $10. Earth Day

Earth Day 2010 is celebrated at the Roberts Creek Pier this Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. There is a great line-up of local entertainment including Tinfish, Sarah Fitzpatrick, Skye Wallace, Ken and Randeesh, The Ground Luminosity and Jill Conway. Sweet Cascadia closes the show.

Arts talk

The District of Sechelt's Arts, Culture and Heritage Advisory Committee invites representatives of interested groups to an event on Saturday, April 24 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sechelt Seniors Centre to celebrate Arts and Culture Week. The Symposium's objective is to bring the community together to collaborate in creating a vision and a way forward in developing arts, culture and heritage in our region, and to discuss the role of a new arts co-ordinator. Amir Ali Alibhai, executive director of the Alliance for Arts and Culture, will give an inspirational talk and a light dinner will be provided. Coffeehouse?

The monthly Artesia Coffeehouse is Friday, April 30 at the Arts Centre. Local young performing artist Katherine Rowlands will be entertaining with many of her original tunes followed by roots/folk/country singer/songwriter Angie McCauley and David Groom. Continuing the evening is Mick Bryant, performing solo with more new works. The evening closes with the amazing collaboration of harpist Diana Halter and Sara Fitzpatrick on violin. Help needed

Volunteers are wanted to assist with the up and coming musical comedy Gibsons Gold. Stage hands and a volunteer piano accompanist are needed for rehearsals and performances at the end of May and beginning of June. Gibsons Gold is all about winning "best town" and the chaos that results. Call Linda at 604-886-8840 if you are interested. Shows are at Gibsons United Church, May 27 to June 6.

Freekers Ball

Performers, dancers, partiers, flaunters, artists, players, revellers, celebrators, spectators, freeks of all ages, shapes and sizes - it's time to get freeky in the Creek. May 1 is the inaugural Freekers Ball. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with an opening ceremony and then a vaudeville style talent show followed by an incredible line up of live performances and DJs. Prizes will be given for the freekiest costumes and performances. Tickets are $20, available at Windsong in Sechelt, MELOmania in Roberts Creek or online at www.freekersball.com. Mellowtones

The Mellowtones present their May Extravaganza next weekend. Their first show, set for May 1 at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club is already sold out, but you can check them out at the Pender Harbour School of Music on May 2 at 1 p.m. Tickets are $20, available at the Seaside Centre, Gaia's Fair Trade and Blue Water in Pender Harbour. The day of music will feature duets, trios, quartets, the Mellowtones and other special guests.
