Art Beat: Sechelt Summer Music Series returns

Live, Saturday afternoon concerts are back this summer on the stage behind the Sechelt Library. The series of nine free concerts begins July 3 at noon.

Live, Saturday afternoon concerts are back this summer on the stage behind the Sechelt Library. The series of nine free concerts begins July 3 at noon. Each week will feature two musical acts, from singer-songwriters to rock, to pop and jazz, playing back-to-back for up to one hour each. Sunday jazz

The Gibsons Landing Jazz Festival is going virtual this year with an afternoon of great local music on Sunday, June 27, starting at 1 p.m. You can tune in online and on Eastlink Community TV. Viewing details and links can be found at coastjazz.com.

Artists in the garden

An open-air closing reception for the current exhibition at the Sunshine Coast Arts Council’s Doris Crowston Gallery in Sechelt will be held Sunday, June 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the garden area outside the gallery. The show, Singular/Serial: Contemporary Monoprinting, features work by artists Jen Drysdale, Greta Guzek, Kim LaFave, and Jennifer Love. Masks care not required outside the gallery, but organizers ask that social distancing still be maintained.

Poetry in fabric

FibreWorks Studio & Gallery in Madeira Park is hosting an opening reception for its new show, “the poetry of line,” on Saturday, June 26 at 2 p.m. Artists Alexis Bach, Jill Denton, and Catherine Nicholls are displaying works inspired by “the words of a poem or the lines of a song.” The show runs until Aug. 1.

Gigi’s gig

Halfmoon Bay painter and multimedia artist Gigi Hoeller is holding her annual Canada Day gallery open house once again this year, from Thursday, July 1 through to Sunday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. “I am gently letting go of older artworks and have many new pieces as well, including my extremely exciting art dolls made from recycled items,” Hoeller said. Rally for Pride

Sunshine Coast Pride has invited everyone to “decorate your car and yourself and join us for a car rally from Halfmoon Bay to Gibsons in celebration of queer visibility,” on Saturday, June 26. The ride launches from Halfmoon Bay Elementary School parking lot at 3 p.m. Get details and route info at SC Pride’s website.

Live this weekend

The weather is perfect for Daniel Wesley to bring his reggae-rock beach music to the 101 Brewhouse in Gibsons on Sunday, June 27, for two separate shows, at 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. Just 50 tickets will be available for each show. Get them through eventbrite.ca.

Jennifer Mauel is on the patio at the Clubhouse Restaurant at the Pender Harbour Golf Club on Friday, June 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. On the patio on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., hear a couple of sets from the band, A Cue Stick.
