On Friday Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on select days for the following five weeks, the public is invited to carve a notch into the Reconciliation Totem Pole being created by shíshálh Master Carver ?antuni Tony Paul. Paul has come up with a densely rich design for the ten-metre pole, depicting the First Nation’s relationship with nature, cultural highlights and icons, and the hardships endured by the shíshálh since colonization. The project is underway in a tent located between Raven’s Cry Theatre and the Big Mac convenience store in Sechelt. Other opportunities to be a part of the carving process, also from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., are coming come up on Aug. 10, 16, 24 and 30, and Sept. 7.
