The meagan & amy duo will perform at the Pender Harbour School of Music this weekend.

The Pender Harbour School of Music will welcome a duo at the forefront of Canadian classical music as part of its concert series on April 23.

meagan & amy sets a new standard for audience-friendly classical music. Their first album, Roots, explores connection between Canadian compositions and works from the traditional canon of classical repertoire. Both Meagan Milatz and Amy Hillis are originally from Saskatchewan. The two met at McGill University and are currently based in Montreal.

Milatz is a pianist who is emerging as one of the most sought-after collaborative artists in the country.  Her chamber music experiences are far-reaching, most recently as co-artistic director of a Montreal concert series with cellist Cameron Crozman.

As a performer and educator, Hillis mixes her passion for music with innovative thinking to inspire and challenge norms. She is a founding member and manager of the prairie-based Horizon String Quartet, a group dedicated to engaging students with live chamber music.

Pender Harbour School of Music will present the two young musicians on April 23, 2023 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at penderharbourmusic.ca.

Sounds of springtime

The Sunshine Coast is fortunate to have its very own concert band with a fine group of musicians playing woodwinds, brass instruments and percussion. An upcoming performance by the ensemble will usher in the springtime season with musical flair.

The group’s popular and capable conductor is Tak Maeda who also conducts three highly-acclaimed bands in Vancouver.

The band will perform a selection of appealing music on Sunday April 30 at 2:30 at St. John’s United Church in Davis Bay.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from Gibsons Florist at Sunnycrest Mall, Strait Music (Sechelt) or at the door. Admission is free for children 12 and under.

New members are always welcome to join the band and or the associated community orchestra. More information about the band can be found on the website sunshinecosatorchestra.ca and its related Facebook page.
