Coast String Fiddlers present an evening of Scottish song on March 4 in Gibsons.

The local fiddlers will welcome Malinky from Scotland who are coming to Canada for their inaugural concert tour. The tour starts at the famed Calgary Folk Club, moves to Edmonton then Vancouver before coming to Gibsons for a concert at St. Bart's Church Hall.

Ranked among today's foremost exponents of Scottish song, Malinky combines an array of vocal talent with a highly distinctive instrumental palette, in fresh yet timeless arrangements of both traditional and contemporary material. Their fast-track progress on the international Celtic scene since forming in 1998 has been underpinned by outstanding musical prowess, fruitful artistic evolution and maturity well beyond their years. Among the five, they share a diverse wealth of influences and backgrounds, including Byrne's staunch affiliations with his native Angus region, Hunter's specialist interest in the songs of Scottish travellers and the Antrim-born Dunlop's roots in Ulster tradition. As a former member of young Anglo-Scots/Irish five-piece CrossCurrent (and a graduate of the Newcastle University Folk Music Degree course), Wood brings his extensive knowledge of traditions south of the border to the mix, while Bews, a stalwart of Edinburgh's lively session scene, has worked with artists as diverse as Basque singer-songwriter Mikel Urdangarin and Fence Collective star James Yorkston.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. concert are available at Hallmark Cards in Gibsons and at the door. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors.
