Award-winning Afropop sextet H'sao from Chad, via Montreal, returns to the Sunshine Coast after an over-long, five-year absence.

Drawing from gospel, traditional African music and their Chadian roots, H'sao display clear soul, pop and R&B influences. All the members of this Montreal afropop group are singer-songwriters; elements of their various influences are smoothly blended with African rhythms to create fresh songs in a unique style. Masterful a capella singing with soaring harmonies sets them apart on the vast soundscape of world music.

H'sao's journey began in their native Chad. Initially, the group was made up of the Rimtobaye brothers and sister: Caleb, Mossbass, Taroum and Israel. Their father dubs them Hirondelle (swallow) in honour of the birds that are always searching for higher ground; their first singing is done in the church where he is the pastor. After moving to Montreal, they quickly became known for their unique sound, exquisite harmonies and strong performances on stage, appearing through the years at various prestigious national and international events.

Come join us for this festive and unique contemporary African musical and visual experience, and be prepared to move to some funky grooves on Friday, Feb. 18, at 9 p.m. at Roberts Creek Hall. Tickets are $20, available at Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts, MELOmania and Strait Music. For more on the group, visit www.hsao.ca.
