International jazz collective Tunnel Six plays the Gibsons Landing Jazz Festival kick-off concert this Saturday, May 29, at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt.
This innovative sextet crosses geographical and musical boundaries to inspire and entertain audiences across North America. Exactly one year after Tunnel Six was formed out of a chance meeting at the Banff Centre for the Arts in May 2009, this unique jazz collective is reuniting for an extensive cross-continental tour of 14 cities in Canada and the U.S.
Tunnel Six is a musical collective comprised of some of the most notable up-and-coming jazz musicians from various cities in Canada and the U.S. Though the band was formed by chance meeting, the unique musical chemistry between the band members was immediately evident.
The band connects to a broad spectrum of audiences through the strong storytelling elements of their compositions and improvisations. Accessibility, a broad pallet of expression and an organic narrative quality are some of the driving characteristics of their approach to composition and performance. They hope to draw audiences inside the artistic process with a level of intimacy not always present in jazz performances.
Tunnel Six is: Chad McCullough (Seattle), Ben Dietschi and Brian Seligman (Toronto), Andrew Oliver (Portland), Ronald Hynes (Halifax) and Tyson Stubelek (New York City).
Show starts at 8 p.m., doors at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy the tasty treats of Trish Thompson before the show. Tickets are $15 ($10 for children and students) at Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts, MELOmania and WindSong Gallery.
