The ninth annual Showcase of the Performing Arts (SOPA) kicks off on July 2 at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons with a two-week showcase of local talent. Passionate and vivacious singer-songwriter Skye Wallace opens SOPA with a 7 p.m.

The ninth annual Showcase of the Performing Arts (SOPA) kicks off on July 2 at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons with a two-week showcase of local talent.

Passionate and vivacious singer-songwriter Skye Wallace opens SOPA with a 7 p.m. show at a special catered, no-host bar event. Tickets are $15.

If you enjoy exceptional piano playing, come out July 3 at 8 p.m. to the Pianothon where you will enjoy a variety of talented pianists perform on the Knabe grand piano. This event is to raise money for the upkeep of the Knabe and restoration of the foyer Mehlin piano. Tickets are $10.

On July 4 at 8 p.m., dancer/choreographer Lindsay Prentice involves 29 dancers to tell the story of Skeleton Woman,an Inuit folk tale. Tickets are $12.

On Monday, July 7, at 8 p.m., SOPA presents Silence at the Heart of Things, a documentary film about fiddler extraordinaire Oliver Schroer. The film follows Schroer in the final months of his life as he prepares for his last concert on the Tour of the Planet, which was for him and his fans a joyful celebration ofhis life's work. Tickets are $12.

Nikki Weber with The NOW Generation 2010 performs at 8 p.m. on July 8. This years lineup include Mike and Maddy Weber, Gedeonand Courtenay Lizee, Stephanie Slinger-land, Tonielle King-Rose, Nikki and Emily Sherwood, Rene Desalniers with accompanists Ken Dalgleish and Bonar Harris. Tickets are $15.

More dance is in store on July 9 at 8 p.m. when DsDanse and Dance Works team up in an exciting variety of dance pieces performed by their senior dance students. Tickets are $15.

July 10 at 8 p.m. is Celtic Night featuring the Sunshine Coast School of Celtic Music's Youth Trad Band. Tickets are $15.

The Billy Hillpicker Band with their good time interpretation of bluegrass, roots, folk and original tunes takes the stage at 8 p.m. on July 11. Four well-known guys on guitar, two banjos and a bass, with well-crafted harmonies and toe-tapping music will leave you smiling. Tickets are $15.

If you're up for a good laugh, then check out the presentation of some of the Talking Heads solo pieces by Alan Bennett July 14 to 16 at 8 p.m. with Nights in the Gardens of Spain performed by Nest Lewis and Soldiering On performed by Colleen Elson. Tickets are $12.

SOPA wraps up on July 17 at 8 p.m. with Berni G and Frenz with music from the roaring '20s and fabulous '50s with Berni G, Paul Steenuis, Barry Taylor, Ian McLatchie, Gary McGuire, Walter Martella and a new Frenz, Outback Ozzie.
