The Bad to the Bow youth fiddlers, members of the Coast String Fiddlers, are hosting a youth fiddle workshop this weekend and their second annual family dance and concert.
The concert is Sunday at 7 p.m., followed by the dance at 8 at the Gibsons United Church Hall. The concert and dance will feature Victoria fiddling sensations Calvin Cairns and Adrian Dolan and youth fiddlers from the Coast and beyond.

Harbour Gallery
For the May Day celebrations in Madeira Park, the Harbour Gallery, situated beside the performance centre, will be featuring Pender Harbour Scenes, opening May 21. The show includes a variety of work by members. The gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Everyday Eden
Join food and lifestyle writer Christina Symons and horticulturalist and landscaper John Gillespie for a book signing for Everyday Eden: 100+ Fun, Green Garden Projects for the Whole Family to Enjoy, Saturday, May 21, 1 to 3 p.m. at Bluewaters Books in Madeira Park, and on Sunday, May 22, noon to 2 p.m. at The Swallow's Nest, 1061 Gibsons Way.
Fun with The Doctor
Dr. Fun and the Painkillers are the featured performers at the May Day dance in Pender Harbour this Saturday at the community hall. Doors open at 8:30, with the band playing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets for this adults-only event are $25 and must be purchased in advance from Pender Harbour Insurance, Painted Boat Resort and John Henry's.
101 art
For the month of May, 101 Office Supply in Sechelt is featuring the photography of Dylan Dunkerton.
A life-long Sunshine Coast local, Dunkerton is a professional mountain biker who travels throughout North America to find the best ride. He also has a passion for film making and photography, which has led to commercial success, essentially fuelling his sports career. His travels have provided opportunity to collect many stunning and colourful images. The current show features scenic shots predominantly from the Sunshine Coast and Virgin, Utah.
Raise the roof
Nikki Weber and the Mellowtones will raise the roof next weekend in two musical fundraisers for the St. Mary's Hospital expansion project.
The first event is on Saturday, May 28, at the Sechelt Legion auditorium. Patrons can enjoy dessert and coffee at 6:30 p.m. followed by the show at 7:30. The concert will feature the Mellowtones accompanied by Miles Black, Boyd Norman, Al Burns and Patrice Pollock.
Then on Sunday, May 29, the gang hits the road for a 1:30 p.m. show at the Pender Harbour School of Music.
Tickets for either show is $22 in advance or $25 at the door, available from the Sechelt Legion, The Mellowtones or by phone at 604-740-0933.
Poetry reading
Literary giants Lorna Crozier and Patrick Lane will read in Gibsons next Friday, May 27, at 7 p.m. at Wheatberries Bakery/Bistro in Gibsons. Wheatberries will be serving dinner starting at 6 and Talewind Books will be selling books. The League of Canadian Poets, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Sunshine Coast Credit Union are sponsoring this reading, which is free to the public but donations are accepted.
