A festival of wind music

The first Coast Festival of Wind Music is slated for March 3 and 4 at the Heritage Playhouse. Presented by the Sunshine Coast Music Society, this should be quite the weekend. The ever-popular Creek Big Band (CBB) is first up.

The first Coast Festival of Wind Music is slated for March 3 and 4 at the Heritage Playhouse.

Presented by the Sunshine Coast Music Society, this should be quite the weekend.

The ever-popular Creek Big Band (CBB) is first up. They'll treat you to as cool a Saturday night as you're likely to encounter anywhere. The Big Band highlights 19 of the Coast's finest musicians. Swing and sway as well-known vocalist Trudi Diening joins the band in dance, jazz and swing classics. Some contemporary selections intersperse music of the big band era, and refreshments will be available.

Come back Sunday at 4:30 p.m. for the amazing sound of the Pacific SymphonicWind Ensemble (PSWE). This 40 strong, Coquitlam-based group of musicians comprises professionals, music educators and invited amateurs. Their cutting edge repertoire takes audiences beyond the music they know and brings them gently back. The more familiar selections include Greensleeves and excerpts from West Side Story. The Dance of the Jesters from Tchaikovsky's ballet music for the Snow Maiden is also scheduled.

The price is right. Buy PSWE tickets for $15 and CBB for $10. Get both for a mere $20. They're available from Gaia's Fair Trade Gifts and Talewind Books. There may be some available at the door, but don't bank on it. Only 120 tickets are available, and at these prices, they're unlikely to last.
