Young Life Sunshine Coast is preparing to expand to Sechelt next year and needs to raise an additional $20,000 to cover the expansion costs.
The Young Life Sunshine Coast Committee is planning a fundraiser to meet this financial goal by hosting a Chocolate Buffet & Coffee House on Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club in Roberts Creek from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be live music, a silent auction, testimonies, and a chance to contribute to the work of the existing and expanding clubs.
Young Life is a non-denominational Christian youth organization that provides a fun, safe place for teens to be. Young Life leaders build meaningful, mentoring relationships within the context of teens’ lives. Leaders are committed to meeting teens on their turf, hanging out playing basketball, going to the mall and walking through life with them in their high school years. Young Life youth also have the opportunity to attend Young Life’s Rockridge Canyon (www.rockridgecanyon) for one week in the summer. While the youth enjoy the fun events, they also are given the opportunity to learn who Jesus Christ is.
Young Life has been reaching teens for over 60 years in Canada and Young Life Sunshine Coast has been running successfully in Gibsons for the past two years.
Young Life area director Will Dow and volunteer leaders plan weekly club events such as outdoor games, bonfires, movie nights and paint wars, which have been drawing 30 to 50 students each week in Gibsons during the school year. They are currently meeting at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre on Monday nights.
Young Life Sunshine Coast staff and leaders are also supported by an adult committee of volunteers who are committed to donating financially monthly or yearly to provide staff wages, program supplies and training.
