The PowHERtalks speaker series, described as “a uniquely empowering, all-female presentation series designed specifically to help committed, passionate women move their missions forward,” is coming to Sechelt on Saturday, Nov. 14.

The event will feature 18 brief, powerful presentations, a catered refueling break, a Nia energizer, an exhibitors’ lounge featuring local female entrepreneurs, pop-up retail booths for holiday shopping and a networking reception. A post-event dinner and socializer will be held at the Blue Ocean Grill for those who want to extend the estrogen-fueled experience.

Doors will open at noon and the event will get underway at 1 p.m., with each of the 18 female presenters speaking for nine minutes. During that time, they will talk to the audience about what is important to them, what they’ve learned, and the social impact they wish to make. They will also talk about what they need to advance their mission.

The audience, in return, is asked to listen to each presentation and then consider how they might be able to help the speaker achieve a “PowHERplay” – a strong, competitive boost that transpires by pulling together the group’s collective energy, wisdom and connections.

“There are three key things women need to move their vision forward,” said Charlene SanJenko, CEO of PowHERhouse. “They need confidence, they need connections, and they need access to capital. The PowHERtalks speaker series provides women with a very real way to access all three, so they can put some muscle behind their mission.”

PowHERhouse will also publicly announce their “100 x 100 PowHERfully give-back campaign” at the Sechelt event. The concept behind this #WeCare-campaign is that, each quarter, 100 women will donate $100 each to a social cause that builds strong women and strong families, both locally and globally. The first recipient of this give-back campaign will be the Gibsons Public Market. Throughout the month of November, SanJenko will be recruiting 100 women to join 100 x 100 PowHERfully.

“The 100 x 100 PowHERfully campaign is an innovative way to bring women together with the purpose of building powerful communities, a goal at the heart of the Gibsons Public Market and Coastal Community Hub project,” said Pam Robertson, capital campaign co-chair. “We are grateful to be selected as the first recipient of this exciting campaign.”

In January, SanJenko will announce the recipient for the winter 2016 quarter.

The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. at the Chatelech Secondary School Theatre. To purchase tickets, see www.powHERtalks.com. For more details, see www.powherhouse.com/powhertalks

The 2015-16 speaker series includes five event days in five different B.C. communities between October 2015 and spring 2016. The Oct. 24 event was held in Nanaimo.

The long-term vision is for an annual PowHERtalks series (in six different Canadian communities each year). These series would help to promote PowHERcamps, a two-day lifestyle and leadership festival for women. The goal would be to host one camp in Western Canada and one in Eastern Canada each year within the next five years.
