The school district wrapped up its elementary track and field season last week with their high jump competition taking place at Chatelech, and the 400+ athletes from Grades 3 to 7 braving the hot day at the Elphinstone Secondary School track.

All of the elementary schools from Madeira Park to Langdale were well-represented with athletes having prepared and trained at their schools through April and May. The school district-sponsored day saw lots of ribbons handed out to the young athletes, and thanks to Sara Mani and her leadership group from Elphi, plenty of freezies and cool drinks were devoured.

These events would be impossible to run without the participation of the high schoolers and the staffs at the high school hosting. Special thanks to those volunteers and PE teacher Owen Schutz for their support in the event.

The high jump at Chatelech is always a highlight and thanks go out ot Morgan Redman and Hannah Wing for their effort in assisting with the event. West Sechelt and Davis Bay athletes took home most of the prizes, but only one high jump record fell in 2023. It was Grade 4 boy Levi Osborne of West Sechelt eclipsing Landon Kelly’s Cedar Grove mark in 2019, recording a jump of 1.16m. Winners at each grade level follow: Grade 3 – Danika Masi (Ecole), Bennet Williams (DB); Grade 4 – Olive Boyd (DB); Grade 5 – Kenley Achteberg (WS), Griffin Shultz (DB); Grade 6 – Stella Hudec (WS), Gabe Fuhrmann (WS); Grade 7 – Amy Wainwright (WS), Quinn Rich (HMB).
