Shuttle available for blood donors

Blood Caravan
blood donor
The blood caravan shuttle transported about 20 people from the Coast in September.

A blood donation caravan with approximately 20 donors left the Sunshine Coast on Sept. 13 to donate blood at the Glen Eagles Golf Course in West Vancouver. They were well taken care of with shuttle transportation, lovely hospitality and appreciation from clinic attendants.

There was one first-time donor and several who had not donated in years. One man, who had not donated since moving to the Coast over 10 years ago, joined the caravan with a record 125 prior donations in the U.S. He was understandably proud to be giving back again.

Since September, designated sites for blood donations have changed. There is no longer a site in West Vancouver, and the North Lonsdale site is the closest clinic, which runs from 1 to 8 p.m. on designated Wednesdays.

At this time there are no plans for a future caravan but there is an opportunity to create your own club, church and neighbourhood group.

A free shuttle is still available to transport your group from the ferry to the clinic and back (maximum 18 people). You can look forward to the same service, convenience and minimal cost for the ferry only.

For those who donated on Sept. 13, your next eligible date is Wednesday, Dec. 20. For information, contact www.blood.ca or call to book an appointment 1-888-2DONATE (1-888-236-6283). To book the shuttle, contact Patricia Hetherington at 604-886-9559 for information.
