Two fire departments in the Pender Harbour area were honoured with lifetime achievement awards for their volunteer contributions to the community. Bill Gilkes and Bruno Pepin received the award on behalf of the Madeira Park and Garden Bay fire halls, which form the Pender Harbour Fire Department (top), and Chris Cervenko represented the Egmont fire department (above left). The Rotary Club of Pender Harbour and the Pender Harbour Advisory Council (PHAC) present the award jointly. Presenting the awards were Lucy Archbold and Alan Stewart. Also honoured with a Lifetime Volunteer Award was businessman and master gardener Don Fraser, who was recognized for his leadership in the community, including creating Madeira Park’s community garden and founding the PHAC’s precursor, the Pender Harbour Growth and Development Partnership.
