Metcalfe received service award

The Rotary Club of Sechelt is honoured to give this year's Service Above Self Award to Kay Metcalfe.

The Rotary Club of Sechelt is honoured to give this year's Service Above Self Award to Kay Metcalfe.

As Rotary's highest honour, this award recognizes exemplary humanitarian service, with an emphasis on personal volunteer efforts and active involvement in helping others.

Metcalfe has been a volunteer all her adult life. As a parent, she helped with such groups as Cubs, Brownies, figure skating, hockey and PTA. Once her kids left, she got involved with the Legion where she has been involved for 37 years and now is an honoured life member.

She has filled all positions at the Legion including being president in 2004 and 2007. She is currently the chair of the Poppy Campaign and assists with organizing volunteers each fall for the poppy drive.

She has also been a member of the B.C. Hospital Auxiliary for 40 years, holding numerous executive positions including three years as president.

As a result of her dedicated work, she has earned the special honour of being declared a lifetime member of the auxiliary.

In addition, Metcalfe also reaches out to the seniors in the community on an individual basis, giving support to seniors with day-by-day contact.

She truly exemplifies the kind of individual that is worthy of the Service Above Self award of Rotary. Our community is greatly benefited by her and the Rotarians are very happy to be able to bring recognition to someone who has selflessly worked to serve all around her.
