This Saturday, July 1, kicks off the summer season at the Harbour Gallery. Don’t forget to include this local gem on your itinerary when touring your summer visitors around. The gallery is located steps from the Millennium Park, across from the School of Music. There is something for everyone, original paintings of all sizes, stained glass creations and cards. Support local artists with proceeds going towards the Ada Priest Memorial Scholarship awarded to a Pender Harbour student carrying on in Fine Arts. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Labour Day.
The volunteers of the Pender Harbour and District Health Centre Auxiliary Society are celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday this Saturday, July 1, with an astonishing sale. One day only, everything in the Bargain Barn will be 50 per cent off. Twenty dollars could get you more clothes, books, housewares and other treasures than you can carry.
The Legion Meat Draw times will change as of July 1. Saturdays the start time for the main draw will be 3:15 p.m. Sunday the main draw will be 1:15 p.m. Early bird draws will precede main draws both days.
For several years, the Pender Harbour Health Centre has opened on Saturday mornings in the busy summer season to allow residents and visitors access to walk-in treatment from our nurses. This year the program will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays, July 1 to Aug. 26. No booked appointments or laboratory service. There will not be a physician on site.
Seniors Initiative activities this coming week start Tuesday 10:30 to 11 a.m. with an easy-paced walking exercise program with instructor Heidi Kozlof. Carpet bowling is 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday.
On Thursday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m., Har-bourside Friendship will host Samantha Iversen speaking on online scams and computer viruses. Saturday, July 22 enjoy a live stage performance at the Granville Island stage for the 2 p.m. matinée of Bittergirl: The Musical. On July 27, there’s a garden tour and high tea at GeoPia’s Gallery. Pender Harbour Days July 7 to 9 at Millennium Park will celebrate the Harbour’s maritime heritage with vintage boats, displays by PODS and S.C. Observatory, hard hat divers televising the ocean floor, vendors’ village, free wooden boat building for the kids, face painting, petting zoo and a kids’ fishing derby. Enjoy the community picnic with heritage games. Sign up your team for the oyster shucking and log sawing contests. Allen Farrell’s famous sailing dory Buttercup will be rowed from Gibsons where it has been restored to its new home with the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society.
